Our response to the recent demonstrations
- 25 September 2025
In recent weeks, we have seen violent protests, hate-driven unrest and deeply troubling headlines spreading across the UK. These events are not isolated, they reflect a wider attempt to sow fear, division and mistrust in our communities. Here in Bristol, a city known for its diversity and resilience, we cannot and will not allow these forces to take hold.
Autism Independence exists to break down barriers and build belonging. Our work is rooted in respect, inclusion and justice. We stand firmly with all those who feel threatened, marginalised or unsafe. Hate, racism and xenophobia have no place in our city, our communities or our lives.
We understand that periods of unrest and hostility can be particularly difficult for those who already feel isolated. Many experience daily challenges marked by loneliness, exclusion and limited access to support. During such times, that isolation can deepen, leaving families and individuals even more vulnerable. That is why our commitment goes beyond speaking out against hate, we actively work to create welcoming, understanding and connected spaces, where everyone can feel safe, heard and genuinely supported.
Bristol is strongest when we come together in solidarity and compassion. Now more than ever, we must choose courage over fear, unity over division and hope over hostility. Autism Independence will continue to play its part in ensuring this city remains a place where every person is valued, supported and able to belong.
