In 2021 we ran a pilot study to understand the experiences of young people from ethnic minority communities with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) transitioning to adult services during COVID. One of the findings from this study was that dads were not always present in multi-agency meetings for their child. The findings were published in a report: Lived experience of people with learning disabilities and or autism from minority ethnic communities using health services

We want to bring men from ethnic minorities into conversations and decisions around their child’s care and support.

Workshops

We are inviting dad’s to a selection of workshops running from 28th June to 19th July to speak to them about:

  • their experiences of being a parent to a child with SEND,
  • what the barriers are
  • and what needs to happen to provide culturally intelligent spaces for dad’s to be more involved in their child’s care and support

This project is being funded by Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board.
